| Through election in the August primary during the even-year elections. This step requires submission of the Affidavit of Identity to be submitted to the county clerk as noted in Step 2 of the Steps of Becoming a Precinct Delegate below. Your name will be placed on the August primary ballot and residents in your precinct will have the opportunity to vote you into office. If elected, the county clerk will certify the election results and the newly elected precinct delegates will be notified in seven days of the primary by first-class mail. |

| As a write-in candidate during the August primary election. - If you missed the deadline to submit your Affidavit of Identity, you can file a "Declaration of Intent" with the county clerk before 4:00 pm the Friday immediately preceding the primary election. OR - You can complete the "Declaration of Intent" with the appropriate precinct board (ie. township clerk) on the day of the August primary any time prior to the close of the polls in your precinct. If elected, the county clerk will certify the election results and the newly elected precinct delegates will be notified in seven days of the primary by first-class mail. |

| Lastly, if there are openings in your precinct after the primaries, speak with the county chair for the political party you're affiliated with. During county conventions, there is an opportunity to make a motion to fill the vacancy of the precinct delegates. This/These motions will be voted on by the current elected precinct delegates. |

| Gain knowledge about your precinctOne must know the precinct where they reside. To locate use the information on voter registration card or search on Michigan Secretary of State site.There is also value in knowing the details about your precinct, such as what the boundaries are, what is good or bad within your area? Drive around and understand what needs attention.Attend meetings for your precinct. Attend meetings with your local political party. Find out who the other precinct delegates are in your precinct. |
Complete & file the most recent Affidavit of Identity found here.Do NOT sign the document until you are with a notary as the notary must see you sign. Notary's can be found at a bank and often the township clerk. File the affidavit with the county clerk prior to state deadlines (The deadline for filing an Affidavit of Identity for a precinct delegate position is 4:00 p.m. on the thirteenth Tuesday preceding the primary). One can drop off in-person or by mail, but always verify receipt! | 2
